Kashmir, where farmers are faced with prospects of poor yield and low income, could well take cues from the success story of a 
farmer who is earning a net annual income of Rs. 3.5 lakhs from 2.0 ha land by adopting integrative farm techniques and optimum resource utilization. Mr. Farooq Ahmad Wani (40) S/o Ghulam Mohammad Wani hailing from Katti Mohalla, Khonmoh in district Srinagar has set himself as a role model for the farmers. Mr. Farooq Ahmad Wani has developed the farm in the sloppy undulating terrain by successfully adopting suitable soil and water conservation methods such as terracing and water harvesting.

Due to urbanization and mass conversion of agricultural land into colonies and small industrial units in District Srinagar, the land holding of people is decreasing day by day and because of luring prices of agricultural land farmers are shifting towards other trades and need for skill development and vocational training programmes
Primary problem in rural area is unemployment and non availability of sources of income generation. Javed Ahmad Ganie, a young energetic man of Ishber Nishat in District could not complete his graduation due to poverty and started his family business of Agri-Farming by which he could hardly manage to feed his large family. After some time Javed come to know about bee keeping through some news papers and friends. Beekeeping sounded very new and different for Javed Ahmad and he came in contact with Division of Entomology, SKUAST-K at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Srinagar. After having some fruitful discussions and advised from expert of KVK, he made of his mind to start beekeeping as full time profession and decided to attend the trainings and became first to start beekeeping in the village. After completing training from KVK Srinagar, he purchased some colonies and started a small unit.
